UBC evaluates the impact of disease, treatment and medical care on health outcomes. Combining the disciplines of health sciences, psychometrics, epidemiology, psychology and other social sciences, UBC’s team of international researchers develop new patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures, evaluate the measurement qualities of PROs and design and complete studies to evaluate symptoms, health-related quality of life, treatment satisfaction and patient preference outcomes associated with health interventions. UBC scientists, strategists, and technicians work together to design a measurement approach best suited to the research question – from concept development through platform selection and instrument design. We have 17 doctorate-level and 19 masters-level outcomes researchers on staff to lead these efforts and support client needs.
We have scientific and strategic expertise, covering all therapeutic areas, in:
Our work helps to identify and clarify unmet clinical needs, assess burden of illness and evaluate patient outcomes, preference and/or compliance, while supporting promotional and labeling claims.
As a leader in this area, UBC has extensive, versatile electronic data capture (EDC) expertise, including electronic patient-report outcomes capabilities (ePROs). We are able, for example, to implement patient surveys that can be completed via the web, interactive voice recognition (IVR) systems, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and other emerging technologies.
UBC’s technology expertise and resources include:
- Electronic data capture (EDC)
- E-PROs (all platforms, including IVRS, PDA, tablet, laptop, desktop)
- Client portals
- Web-based surveys, web-based learning, and e-training
- Searchable databases: MetaHub™, EvidenceHub™, RaterHub, Site Database
