UBC outcomes research experts have developed an innovative
consortium-focused approach to the development of outcomes
instrument development. We bring together multi-sponsored consortia
that combine scientific resources from several companies with teams
of independent experts and organizations to develop unified research
instruments that benefit the entire health care community, including
health care providers, research experts, regulatory authorities, and
manufacturers.
Two therapeutic areas are currently being addressed by this
approach:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Mild cognitive impairment (MCI)/Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
Both initiatives are multi-sponsor projects that have brought
together experts in instrument development and validation,
international clinicians and researchers, as well as expert
representatives from regulatory agencies, to develop a single,
validated patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure in each area. A key
element of these projects has been the interest and enthusiasm of
the industry sponsors, regulatory agencies, and the content experts
committed to improving PRO evaluation through this innovative,
cooperative program.
